How to judge the quality of plastic pails
1. Appearance inspection
Color
High-quality plastic pails have uniform color and no obvious color difference. If the colors are mixed or there are obvious spots or stripes, it may be that the raw materials are unevenly mixed or there are impurities in the production process.
Surface flatness
Observe whether the surface of the plastic bucket is flat and smooth, without obvious unevenness, bubbles, scratches or shrinkage marks. Good surface quality indicates that the production process is fine and the product quality is high.
You can touch the surface of the plastic barrel with your hands to feel its flatness and smoothness. If the surface has obvious roughness or graininess, it may be that the mold quality is poor or the process control is improper during the production process.
Edges and corners
Check whether the edges and corners of the plastic barrel are neat and burr-free. The processing quality of the edges and corners reflects the process level and quality control ability of the manufacturer.
Gently run your fingers over the edges and corners to feel whether there is a sharp feeling. If there are burrs, it may cause harm to the human body during use, and it also indicates that the quality of the product is not high.
2. Material identification
Hardness and toughness
Press the plastic pails gently with your hand to feel its hardness and toughness. A high-quality plastic barrel should have a certain hardness and be able to withstand a certain pressure without deformation; at the same time, it should also have a certain toughness and will not break when slightly hit.
The quality of the material can be judged by comparing the hardness and toughness of different plastic barrels. For example, plastic barrels made of polyethylene (PE) usually have good toughness, while plastic barrels made of polypropylene (PP) have higher hardness.
Combustion test
A simple combustion test can be performed to preliminarily determine the material of the plastic barrel. Take a small piece of the material of the plastic barrel, ignite it with a lighter, and observe the combustion. Plastics of different materials have different combustion characteristics. For example, when polyethylene burns, the flame is blue and has a paraffin smell; when polypropylene burns, the flame is yellow and has a petroleum smell.
The combustion test can only be used as a preliminary judgment method and cannot completely determine the material of the plastic barrel. When conducting a combustion test, pay attention to safety and avoid causing a fire.
Check the label
Regular plastic barrel products usually have information such as material, manufacturer, and production date marked on the barrel. By checking the label, you can understand the material and production source of the plastic barrel, and thus judge its quality.
For example, if the label indicates that it is made of food-grade plastic, it means that the plastic barrel can be used to store food and has relatively high quality. If there is no label or the label is unclear, it may be a low-quality product.
3. Sealing inspection
Sealing performance of lid
Check whether the lid of the plastic pail can be tightly covered on the barrel mouth without looseness or leakage. After tightening the lid, gently shake the plastic pails to observe whether there is any liquid seeping out.
For plastic bucket with sealing requirements, such as plastic pail for storing chemical raw materials or food, the sealing performance of the lid is particularly important. You can choose a lid with a rubber sealing ring to enhance the sealing effect.
Barrel body sealing performance
Check whether there are cracks, holes or other leaks in the barrel body of the plastic barrel. You can fill the plastic barrel with water and observe whether there are water droplets seeping out. If leakage is found, it means that there is a problem with the quality of the plastic barrel.
For some plastic barrels that need to store liquids for a long time, the sealing performance of the barrel body is crucial. You can choose a plastic barrel produced by one-piece molding process to reduce the risk of leakage.
IV. Weight and thickness
Weight
Comparing the weight of different plastic barrels can preliminarily judge their quality. Generally speaking, plastic barrels of better quality are relatively heavy because they usually use thicker materials and stronger structures.
But it should be noted that weight is not the only criterion for judgment. Some low-quality plastic barrels may increase weight by adding fillers, but the actual quality is not high.
Thickness
Touch the barrel wall of the plastic barrel with your hand to feel its thickness. The barrel wall of a high-quality plastic barrel has a uniform thickness and no obvious weak points. The quality of the plastic barrel can be further judged by measuring the thickness of the barrel wall.
Generally speaking, plastic pails with thicker walls are more durable and can withstand greater pressure and impact. However, the appropriate thickness should be selected according to actual use needs to avoid excessive waste of materials.
