How much pressure resistance can an tinplate metal pail have
The pressure resistance of an tinplate metal pail is affected by a variety of factors and cannot simply be measured by a fixed value.
1: Material factors
Types of Tinplate materials: Different types of iron have different strengths and toughness. For example, the yield strength of tinplate pails made of ordinary low carbon steel is generally around 200 - 300MPa, and this type of metal pail can withstand a certain degree of pressure. And if it is metal pail made of high-strength alloy steel, its yield strength may reach more than 500MPa, and its compressive resistance will be stronger. The purity of the material is also important. Iron materials with high purity have fewer internal defects and are less prone to cracks and other failures when under pressure.
Tinplate wall thickness: Tinplate wall thickness is one of the key factors that determine the pressure resistance of an iron barrel. Thicker barrel walls can withstand greater pressure. Generally speaking, the wall thickness of small metal pail such as a capacity of 5 Gallon ) may be around 0.5 - 1mm and can withstand relatively small pressure; while large metal pails such as a capacity of 200 liters) are used to contain heavier liquids When it is solid or solid, the thickness of the barrel wall may reach 1-3mm, and its pressure resistance will be significantly enhanced. For example, when a 200-liter iron drum with a wall thickness of 2 mm is pressure tested, it may withstand several times the pressure of an iron drum with a small wall thickness without deformation.
2 : The shape and structure of tinplate metal pails
Cylindrical tinplate metal pail: Cylindrical is a common shape of metal pail, which has a natural advantage in pressure resistance. Because the cylindrical structure allows the pressure to be evenly distributed on the barrel wall. When pressure is applied from the top or bottom, the pressure will be dispersed along the circumferential direction, reducing the local stress concentration. Under reasonable design, cylindrical metal pail can withstand greater axial pressure. For example, when containing liquid, the pressure of the liquid on the bottom and top of the tinplate metal pail can be effectively dispersed to the entire barrel wall.
Square Metal Pail: The pressure resistance of square metal pail is relatively weak. Due to the stress concentration phenomenon at its corners, the corners are more likely to deform when subjected to pressure. However, the pressure resistance of square metal pail can be improved by adding structures such as reinforcing ribs at the corners. For example, in the design of some industrial square metal pail, metal reinforcing ribs are welded at the four corners to enhance their pressure resistance when stacked or squeezed by external forces.
External support and stacking conditions
Stacking method: When tinplate metal pails are stacked, their pressure resistance will also be affected. Reasonable stacking can improve the overall pressure resistance of metal pails. For example, if the iron barrels are neatly stacked in a pyramid shape, the iron barrels on the lower layer can provide good support for the iron barrels on the upper layer, so that the pressure can be more evenly distributed on each iron barrel. On the contrary, if the stacking is chaotic, it may cause excessive local pressure and make the iron barrels easily damaged.
